Welcome to Whewall Eventing
South-West based, Alex Whewall is an elite level event rider competing across the levels up to CCI5*. Alex has a great eye for selecting and producing young horses and adopts a kind and calm approach to working with the younger horses.
Alex rose to notoriety in 2016, winning the Smith & Williamson British Intermediate Championship at The Festival of British Eventing, Gatcombe, aboard Chakiris Star. From this point the pair continued to rise through the ranks and made their CCI5* debut at Les Etoiles des Pau, France, in 2017. In a year that saw a number of senior riders crumble on the challenging cross-country track, Alex held his nerve to produce a top 20 finish on their debut.
Competing a select string of high quality horses Alex has continued to make his mark on the international eventing circuit. Throughout the 2018 season the Ellfield mares, Grafifi and Voyager, established themselves at CCI3* and CCI4*, and continued that form into 2019. Creating breadth and depth in the team is key for any professional rider and Alex was pleased to step Wisbeach Cevin Z and Nitor up to international level, also. Nitor finished his 2019 season on a high when they finished 14th in the CCI2*-L at Osberton, making him the highest placed 6-year-old in the field.
Despite not competing at 5* level in 2019 Alex had an impressive international season with not only Nitor and the younger horses but also with Chakiris Star who enjoyed a number of CCI3* runs, finishing in the top 6 on 3 consecutive appearances.
2020 saw Alex focus on working on the foundations with all of the horses under his care leaving them in a good position to resume the higher levels of the sport in 2021.
